Reign of Ignorance at MSNBC - Garofolo on Olberman
Reacting to the widespread protests over government budgetary policy, billed as “Tea Parties” and held on “Tax Day” April 15, Janeane Garofalo, a sometimes actress, liberal radio host, and truly clueless political commentator, blasted the protesters on Keith Olberman’s “Countdown” on MSNBC referring to the protesters as
“…a bunch of tea bagging rednecks… this is about hating a black man in the White House. This is racism straight up.”
This is not at all surprising given Garofalo’s penchant to “rage against the machine” which in her case includes conservatives, Republicans, corporations and Christians, with little or no effort to link her opinions to reality. Not unexpected she would use a sexual expression, “tea baggers”, to show her misplaced disgust. Her banter found a permanent home for a time while she hosted the “Majority Report” back in 2004 on Air America, the now defunct radio network funded by liberal hedge fund manager, George Soros. It’s always her psychoanalysis of those who don’t support her team. In May of 2004 she offered her opinion to John Steward regarding the misguided supporters of George Bush:
“A vote for Bush is a character flaw… People who support Bush now, it’s just pride and ego… there’s so many flaws with this presidency that at this point you just can’t give up the ghost, because it’s just embarasing…”
Thank you Ms. Freud! Is it any wonder she would describe herself in a pessimistic fashion begging for therapy:
“I guess I just prefer to see the dark side of things. The glass is always half empty. And cracked. And I just cut my lip on it. And chipped a tooth.”
Keith Olberman, never one to waste facts backing up a point of view, listened with glowing appreciation as he does with anyone willing to demonize conservatives or Republicans. For a short time he, along with Chris Mathews, were news anchors for MSNBC during the presidential elections. But even MSNBC recognized their extreme bias replacing them and moving them back to their commentary status.
When La Raza protests crackdowns on illegal immigrants, SEIU protests globalization or MoveOn.org protests the fact there are Republicans, the left portends these are the legitimate exercise of free speech by individuals. Protests against the Obama Administration, however, as was the case with the Tea Parties, the illegitimate scheming of FOX News. Granted, FOX chose to place hosts at many of the major protest sites. But the impetus of these protests began with the outrage expressed back on February 19th from the floor of the Chicago Board of Trade by CNBC’s Rick Santelli over the Administration’s rewarding of bad behavior.
CNBC, of course, is a sister to MSNBC, and NBC which are all properties of General Electric and the greatest benefactors to the Administration’s support of “Green” industries. Regardless of the facts, Olbermann is always willing to blame FOX which he once described as follows:
“Fox News is hated because they’re elitists, and the worst winners television’s ever seen.”
Again, these insane outbursts say more about him than the wider public’s perception of Fox News as his shows ratings, and those of MSNBC, lag far behind as evidenced by these April 17th statistics for cable news shows:
Total Daytime:
And those for his 8pm prime time slot:
These are two self obsessed individuals who don’t understand that not everyone wants to listen to their senseless rants. The former sportscaster, Olbermann, can’t accept the fact that Nancy Grace garners more support with her human interest segment and Garofalo doesn’t understand why listeners abandoned the victim mentality of the now defunct Air America. I think their regard for Americans in general can be summed up by one last Garofalo quote:
“When I see the American flag, I go, ‘Oh my God, you’re insulting me.’”
