Obama’s 98th Day
The First Hundred Days is an arbitrary benchmark political commentators have used to judge the early success of new administrations since the election of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. You can bet that columnists from the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post along with other liberal print publications and the television news divisions at NBC, ABC, CBS, MSNBC and CNN have all prepared carefully crafted presentations exclaiming the accomplishments of the chosen one. Today’s events, however, will make “brilliance” a hard sell on this 98th day, promising the 99th, the eve of the event, will be filled with questions of the President’s incompetance and deception.
Air Force One Traumatizes Manhattan
At 10am this morning New Yorkers experienced a savage reminder of the 9/11 tragedy in which over 3,000 of their friends and co-workers perished when Air Force One streaked across the sky at a low altitude resembling the glide path of the air liners that crashed into the World Trade Center. Somehow, the Obama administration couldn’t find a photo of the Presidential plane that suited them and sent the craft accompanied by two fighter jets past the Statue of Liberty apparently forgetting his green theme and the costs to already strapped tax payers to suit his never ending political campaign. The callous disregard for the sensitivities of New Yorkers by the Administration was not lost on a citiy’s Mayor. Stating he was “furious” Michael Bloomberg continued,
“They should know how sensitive people would be if they had low-flying planes down around the World Trade Center site…”
City Councilman Daniel Garodnick, who wrote in a letter of complaint to the FAA explained,
“Thousands of people filled the streets in lower Manhattan, fearing the worst. If we had had advance warning, we could have advised our constituents not to be alarmed.”
Employees at the New York Mercantile Exchange and surrounding financial institutions evacuated their offices while others clogged the 911 switchboard in panic. I’m sure the incident will be a reminder of how New Yorkers felt about Muslim sensitivities and CIA interrogation practices the day they were attacked some 8 years before.
Where is My Script?
Rolling out another costly proposal that would commit 3 percent of GDP to scientific research, adding about another $460 billion in obligations to the burden of already destitute tax payers, the need for improvements in technology was demonstrated when TOTUS [Teleprompter of the United States] and confirmed, as many have suspected, that anyone with a theatre arts degree could duplicate Obama’s public appearances:
When he got back on script we heard the same rhetoric that condemns our health care system, economic system, and energy utilization while ignoring the fact that what he proposes has already proved to be a failure throughout the world ignoring our existing energy resources and touting the promise of green energy and jobs. Recently, Spain reported their efforts to crate these jobs were a failure. In addition, Senator Dianne Finestein brought to light the environmental devastation a 10,000 acre solar farm would bring to the delicate desert habitat she has done so much to protect. Additionally, such a farm would require 16 billion gallons of water each year, the equivalent use of 50,000 homes, in a region that can’t supply the water requirements of it’s citizens and agricultural industry; it simply isn’t possible. But that has never stopped Obama in the past! That’s no reason to hold back on another half trillion dollars!
Health and Human Services Secretary on Swine Flu Threat
Woops! We don’t have a Secretary of Health and Human Services. Instead we see the esteemed Homeland Security Secretary, Janet Napolitano, who recently issued a report that one of our greatest security threats is from our own veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. Tom Daschle was slatted for the position but had to withdraw because of tax problems, a common affliction among Obama’s posse. As a matter of fact there are some 75 posts that remain unfilled some of those in the Treasury Department that has taken on the burden of socializing the nations economy spending trillions of dollars.
While Most European countries have restricted travel coming from Mexico, Napolitano is resisting such measures. We certainly would want to offend their sensibilities. She appears in front of the cameras like a deer in the headlights; stunned!
Torture? Who Knew?
Obama had previously dismissed the idea of prosecuting former Bush Administration officials for engaging in what some have described as torture when interrogating terrorist suspects following the 9/11 attacks. But then he agreed to release Justice Department memos revealing CIA enhanced interrogation techniques compromising, not only the nations security but, the operatives that do what it takes to protect the nation. This may have gone away had not ex-Vice President Dick Cheney called for the release of additional documents that detail the success of the program in preventing additional attacks. With Congressional Democrats joint the corrus demanding the prosecution of the Bush Administration it has come to media attention that these members were briefed on these techniques before they went into practice and failed to raise any objections.
Under pressure from left wing supporters and a video by MoveOn.org demonizing the interrogations Obama raised the prospects of allowing the Attorney General to pursue those Justice Department Officials under the Bush Administration to be prosecuted as a result of legal advice they provided. He has also agreed to release photos of the process but not the documents requested by Cheney. And now he has received criticism from a wide array of intelligence officials condemning the action as compromising U.S. security and operatives within the CIA.
This flip flop is not going away and hangs heavily over his head today. The ill conceived photo op of Air Force One this morning can only remind citizens of the decisiveness of the Bush Administration and how the efforts paid off; not another attack has taken place on U.S. soil thanks to discovery of plans to attack New Jersey, Chicago and Los Angeles.
Surviving the day…
We made it through the day despite the failure of the Homeland Security Secretary to warn New Yorkers they would be terrorized by the President. And we know the President is a real good reader though he doesn’t seem to use the skill to learn about economics and science. Hopefully he will take the time to watch a Japanese game show and realize that waterboarding could hardly be called torture by comparison. Anyway, less people have died from waterboarding by the CIA then have perished from the Mexican Swine Flu in the last week. As for the energy, I’m sure he has Exxon’s phone number if worse comes to worse. If not, he can always “… get the number for the website…” from Joe Biden.
