Tyranny on Independence Day
This Independence Day marks the 233rd anniversary of the American Declaration of Independence. But it also marks a year in which the liberty of individual citizens will be diminished to an extent unimaginable only a year ago. Only time tell how long we will tolerate the transgressions that progressives have set in motion with policies that take control of industry, banking, health care and energy watching the administration distribute the spoils as political patronage. At the same time, those who threaten our liberties will receive preferential treatment from the justice department while those represent a threat to the administration will be attacked. The vision that is unfolding comes from the mind of a community organizer not a student of The Constitution, the individual liberties expressed in the Declaration of Independence or the Bill of Rights.
From the beginning Obama’s agenda received unwavering support from the progressive wing of the Democratic party hoping to extract it’s revenge against private enterprise while continuing to hide the failures of massive government sponsored enterprises. Now in addition to the $5.2 trillion disaster at the heart of the financial crisis, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mack, we have sunken some $90 billion into failures in the auto industry and dismissed contract law in the process. Somehow, with little objection from Congress or the press, Obama simply took it upon himself to dismiss the president of General Motors taking steps to broker solutions that benefit his patrons rather than letting events unfold, as they should, in backruptcy court. In the Chrysler deal he dismissed bond holders as greedy speculators, who were in fact retirees receiving pension benefits, in an attempt to vacate their rights as primary lean holders. And while Chrysler’s survival and the jobs of it’s union employers exist by the grace of the American tax payer, Obama delivered 55% of the equity in the enterprise to the United Auto Workers retaining only 8% for tax payers. Distribution of wealth at his discretion is what many warned would be his objective but most dismissed as unimaginable.
It is hard to forget the image of the New Black Panthers brandishing clubs at a polling place in Philadelphia threatening poll workers who would question ACORN submitted applicants or voters who would dare vote for other than Obama. Neither the press or the public would pay much attention to the activities ACORN in spite of the fact they are under investigation for fraudulent activities in no less than 12 states. The Obama campaign engaged the help of ACORN in it’s get out the vote campaign paying them some $800,000 for services rendered. Turns out the President was once a trainer for ACORN, a position he tried to dismiss during the campaign and one the New York Times suppressed as evidenced by an internal memo that reporting this prior to the election could be a game changer. As for the thugs at the polling place in Philadelphia, Obama’s Attorney General, Eric Holder, dismissed charges to the disgust of many veteran prosecutors in the Justice Department. Now Obama plans to involve ACORN in the census which determines representation; this should not stand!
The public has been slow to learn who this President is an what he represents. Much of the blame can be placed on the liberal media who did little to look into Obama’s background or question his statements. In some cases the press engaged in downright deceit as the New York Times in the example above. But the voting public chose to ignore what was quite clear and cast their ballot believing that “Hope and Change” represented what they hoped it might mean. They couldn’t have really based it on what Obama said because there was little if any detail in any of the campaign rhetoric that played on for nearly two years. But it was quite clear he spent 20 years listening to the venomous sermons of Reverend Wright though he claimed ignorance of it’s content. It was clear that he was more than a casual acquaintance of Students for A Democratic Society terrorist William Ayers who hired him for his position at the Woods Foundation and sponsored an early fund raising effort for Obama. And it was clear his association with ACORN was more than coincidental connection as council through a law firm representing the organization.
Candidate Obama championed transparency in government with a promise to post proposed legislation on the Internet for public review before he would sign it. President Obama has done precisely the opposite setting deadlines for Congress to pass a bill for his signature. With the help of Pelosi and Read and a solid Democratic majority he has hoped to rush legislation through before the details are discovered. Resistance has grown as Republicans and “Blue Dog” Democrats have gained some media support with their criticism of the Progressive program. Hopefully, the opposition will grow enough to prevent the Administration’s efforts to take over health care and energy while growing government will be brought to a screeching halt.
Obama’s reaction to world events has to be a mystery to many American’s. For those of us who followed the events that unfolded in the streets of Tehran we were acutely aware of the silence from the Administration as tweeters from the streets asked “where is Obama?” No substantive response of any kind came for seven days as students in the streets struggled as the little democracy they are afforded was being stolen in a corrupt election. Any other President from the first to our last would have at least voiced support for liberty. But not this one. It was reported he only condemned the violence against Iranian citizens after being prompted by Secretary Clinton.
As the Honduras faced a constitutional crisis where the courts condemned the actions of President Manuel Zelaya who was trying to extend his term in office a la Hugo Chavez. The military removed Zelaya in accordance with the courts decision and was condemned by Washington which went as far as to withhold proceeds from existing agreements. Liberty is not where Obama’s sympathies lie.
After Obama stated on the campaign trail that he “… may not look like the Presidents …” on the nations currency we wrote a post It’s Not Who Obama Looks Like, It’s Who He Acts Like. His actions emulate the thugocracy of Hugo Chavez with community groups compromising the voting process and actually threatening poll workers and voters as with the New Black Panthers in Philadelphia where Eric Holder’s Justice Department dropped charges against the perpetrators. With more than five decades of celebrating the 4th I have never seen the anticipate the event with such apathy.
