The State of Obama Address
President Barack Obama delivered his State of the Union address Wednesday night in typical campaign mode devoid of much detail while still blaming former President George W. Bush and Republicans for the nation’s ills and the lack of progress moving the economy toward real recovery. When asked yesterday if he would listen to the speech, Fred Thompson retorted how else would we know what Bush did wrong. After being President for a year now and coming to national prominence two years prior as a presidential candidate Barack Obama continues to deny his associations, acknowledge his shortcomings, or pursue the wishes of the American people while insisting he is misunderstood or victim to the malicious intent of the uncooperative opposition. The only thing we learn from the State of the Union Address is that the state of Obama hasn’t change one bit.
The president who promised change in Washington has resorted to more of the sinister tactics that foster political patronage employing outright bribery than any of his predecessors. In the speech, Obama tells us that our problems didn’t “… begin when the housing market collapsed …” and latter “People bought homes they knew they couldn’t afford from banks and lenders who pushed those bad loans anyway.” What progressives hope we will ignore is the lax underwriting guidelines that led us to the collapse which were dictated by government housing policies that dictated that lenders wishing to participate in these programs make loans in bad market areas to borrowers with no equity or income qualifications.
After a year of doing nothing to provide any meaningful incentive for the private sector to create sustainable jobs Obama tells us
“Now is the time to jump start job creation, re-start lending, and invest in areas like energy, health care, and education that will grow our economy, even as we make hard choices to bring our deficit down. That is what my economic agenda is designed to do, and that’s what I’d like to talk to you about tonight. “
Obama created recovery.org so we could follow the results of his $700 billion recovery act. The site shows jobs created by congressional district. The glaring problem, rarely mentioned by the media, is that many of these district don’t exist. The administration has spent $18 million on a website that fabricates results much like Berny Madoff fabricates stock profits. The difference is Obama will escape prosecution. The jobs that have actually been created, or “jobs saved”, a new term providing the administration some refuge, have been public jobs with outrageous benefits that represent a burden to tax payers. They do nothing to grow the economy, they grow the government.
From relief for home owner to improvements to eduction and the Chrysler bailout which basically gave UAW members an $8 billion stake in an auto company you can discount all the things he says will benefit the middle class knowing that the cost of virtually everything will cost more once he raises taxes, institutes a value added tax [VAT] and taxes health care benefits. As he keeps repeating, “you can keep your current health care” knowing you will have to pay a 40% tax to do so if his health care plan becomes law.
All that is clear from this speech is that President Obama has no intentions of heading the concerns of American citizens. Nor does he respect the protections afforded Americans in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. He has his own progressive vision of how we should be. He embodies all the fears of the founding fathers who designed a constitution that insures individual liberties against the threat of an overbearing government. He will endeavor to take from those who can afford it to provide to whom he deems need it by any means he deems necessary unless the public wakes up and aggressively assert their right to what is theirs and the liberty to do what they want with it.
